In case you haven’t noticed, malware (viruses, spyware, worms, etc.) has begun hitting Macs more often these days. Malware threatens identities and the security of personal and district data. With that in mind, we are recommending that, at the very least, you check your computer periodically for malware and get it cleaned off. Here’s how:
The Westside IT team often uses a free application called Malwarebytes. To download, install, and run it, follow these steps:
1. Open a browser and go to: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/
Click on Download
2. You will now find an installer named mbam-mac-188.8.131.520.dmg in your Downloads folder.
Double-click to open that installer. You will now see the following window:
In this window, do exactly what it shows. Click and drag the Malwarebytes icon to the Applications folder icon. That will install Malwarebytes on your computer.
- Find Malwarebytes in your Applications Folder and double-click to start the application. Click to Accept the License Agreement.
- In the next window, simply click on the Scan button to start scanning your computer for malware. If it finds any, it will clean it up for you.
We recommend running this at least once a month. Please let your building tech support know if you have any questions about any of this.
