Westside Celebrates Computer Science Education Week 2016
Westside Celebrates Computer Science Week
In honor of Computer Science Education Week, many Westside students experienced computer programming for the first time! If you celebrated Hour of Code, or CSEdWeek, let me know and you can be featured below!
On Monday, December 5th. the WMS Computer Science Club hosted a kickoff event for CSEdWeek. Students and teachers from WHS were invited to come and visit with WMS students about CS classes, events, and opportunities that are available at WHS. Many students shared projects that they have completed or are currently working on. WMS students had lots of questions for the upper class men, including advice on how to learn more about computer programming and how to manage high school in general. This meaningful event helped foster relationships among younger and older students at Westside and provided an opportunity to promote Computer Science Education. – Kristeen Shabram
Computer Science SPARK!
CSEdWeek was have all 7th and 8th grade students learn about why we celebrate CSEdWeek. Students learned about computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper. Every year on the week of her birthday, we celebrate
her accomplishments and inspire K-12 students to take interest in computer science. Students then had the opportunity to explore the Code.org website and complete an Hour of Code tutorial. -Kristeen Shabram
